Drop The Rope

“Drop the Rope” is a concept that comes from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

One of the most challenging aspects of anxiety, OCD, or negative thoughts is that the more we resist, avoid, or push them away, the stronger they become...

Imagine being in a tug-of-war with a monster, pulling with all your strength because you fear that losing will drag you into a pit of symptoms. But the harder you pull, the harder the monster pulls back…

Instead of engaging in this struggle, DROP THE ROPE. Stop fight and allow the thoughts/feelings to be there. Accept them for what they are- just thoughts or feelings. They may try to intimidate you, demanding that you pick up the rope, but don’t give in. Over time, the intensity will fade and you’ll regain control.

(Utilizing a coping skill, self-care strategy will help as well to get through the high intensity moment!)
